When friend and fellow artist Anne Selden set prospects on graduate school at Cranbook Academy of Art she came to me in hopes of creating a book that articulated her designs — fiber creations that vacilate between sculpture and fashion — and the artistic process that inspired them.

With materials ranging from telephone wire, rubber gloves, make-up dyed fibers, and photo-transfer fabrics, it seemed necessary to include the raw material into the book. By hand-stitching in small square swatches of leftover materials, the stitch and fibers provide context to her artistic exploration, highlight her level of craftmanship, and relate the nature of her medium in an immediate way.
